Estimates

How do I get the guys who did the furnace estimates to stop calling?

My furnace started acting up in March, so I decided I should get 3 or 4 estimates and put a new one in. Thats before my medical problems started. I am having an exploratory surgery here before too long. I keep getting phone calls from the guys who did the estimates and as much as I would like for my furnace to be put in before cold weather, it will have to wait until August or September. Should I just tell em to quit bugging me?

  1. Explain your situation just as you have for us, and tell them that your health takes FIRST PRIORITY, and that you will decide what you are going to do about the furnace, AND which of them will get the job, AFTER YOUR MEDICAL CRISIS IS OVER. Also emphasize that continued harassment on their part will lower your esteem of their business practice and will also help you determine who NOT to use when it comes time to buy a furnace and have it installed. I would also tell them that IF they refuse to honor your medical predicament and continue to harass you, that you will report their harassment to your local BBB [Better Business Bureau]. And IF one or more continue the harassment, then REPORT them to the BBB!!!!!
  2. I wouldn't give them too much personal information. If you don't think you are going to use any of the companies, tell them that your neighbor, brother-in-law, co-worker, etc., hooked you up with an installer. If they ask for the name, just say you'd rather not say. If you think you might use the company again, call them and tell them you've postponed your project, and that you will contact them when you're ready to proceed. And in the meantime, you'd like them to stop calling you. You can even follow up with a letter to the company. Whatever route you go, make a note of the day and time you call, and with whom you speak. If they call again, just repeat your story, and make a note in your log about the data, time, person who called. If they call more than twice after that, I'd call the company again, tell them that you're keeping a log of their harrassing phone calls and rattle of the dates and times that people have called. Request that they stop and say that you'll take legal action if they don't stop calling you. Yet another idea, is to block their phone numbers on your phone system. I think most phone companies let you block specific numbers from getting through. I know I wouldn't choose a company that keeps bugging me..I don't know why they do that.
  3. Tell them you cannot afford it and will call them when you need their help and to please stop calling you, if that dont work then get a little worse with it and say Look I cannot afford it right now, I have a bad situation going on and I dont need you guys bothering me, and ask them to stop or you will make a complaint to the supervisor, and if it gets that far I am sure the supervisor can stop the calls. You can also put a block on your phone to avoid the whole thing.
  4. it's called telephone marketing / solicitation which is now frowned upon, there is a phone number you can call to add your phone number to the list, tell them the next time they call they will be reported
